Everyday tasks in family care of dementia patients
Family care for a dementia patient is a long-term responsibility that is constantly changing due to the degenerative nature of the disease. In the course of care, family caregivers are constantly confronted with new, sometimes very demanding tasks. This does not only include medical and physical support or the management of the household. Above all, the emotional accompaniment of the affected person, the recurring guidance of everyday actions and, last but not least, supervising tasks demand a lot from caregiving family members and professional supporters.
The research project focuses on these everyday tasks in family caregiving. The question is investigated which assessment, decision-making and adaptation processes contribute to family members being able to successfully organise the care of a dementia patient over many years. The project work is based on analyses in the existing dataset of the longitudinal study "Stress on caring relatives of dementia patients" (LEANDER).
