Adaptation and adaptivity in age-appropriate IT design
More and more older people are using information processing technologies on a regular basis. Many consciously opt for a smartphone, tablet, navigation device or PC. Others are confronted with everyday devices and medical products that are equipped with information processing technologies.
Nevertheless, only a few information-processing technologies are being developed to meet the special needs of older people. Age-related changes in motor skills, cognition and sensor technology, limitations caused by illness and disability, but also the special expectations of older people with regard to the function of an information processing technology are often not taken into account either in the design of the human-machine interface or in the compilation of the functions it provides.
This project aims to investigate how information processing technologies can meet the needs of older people by providing different usage arrangements ("adaptability") or by adapting the software to the user's perceived performance level ("adaptation").
